Jaihoon Launches Portal for Edappal Community

Mujeeb Jaihoon launched Ignitia’s local website and newspaper, a student-led media initiative for the growing town of Edappal.

EDAPPAL (2010) – In a significant move toward community-led journalism, a collective of students and academicians in the rapidly developing town of Edappal has launched a dedicated website and newspaper tailored specifically for local residents.

The project, spearheaded by the group Ignitia, aims to provide a platform for hyper-local news, culture, and civic engagement in this prominent Malappuram hub.

Dual Launch by Literary Figures

The initiative was inaugurated in a ceremony featuring prominent figures from the literary world:

Digital Presence: The official website was inaugurated by Mujeeb Jaihoon, a renowned Sharjah-based poet and Edappal native.

Print Edition: The newspaper was officially launched by P. Surendran, one of Kerala’s leading contemporary writers.

Empowering the Local Voice

Driven by a team of dedicated students and academic professionals, Ignitia seeks to bridge the gap between traditional news coverage and the specific needs of the Edappal community. By focusing on content “made by and for the residents,” the group hopes to foster a stronger sense of local identity and provide a credible outlet for the town’s growing population.

“This is more than just a media project; it is a testament to the intellectual energy of our youth,” noted the organizers during the event.

The launch marks a new chapter for Edappal, transforming the fast-growing town into a center for grassroots media innovation.
