Miraj is one of the most fascinating episodes in the history of faith. It continues to inspire the intellect as well as intoxicate the heart. Logic baffles before its mega reach into the infinite cosmic space and time.
The speed of the Mirajian travel has been conservatively or conveniently (or both) likened to that of light. This is perfectly justifiable since light is the fastest known phenomenon known to the common humanity. But therein lies the problem. The human knowledge base is evolutionary in nature. Our understanding of the world is colored by our relative knowledge, which progresses over the timeline of the collective human experience.
How then can we compare the marvel of the Miraj, or the Night Journey, with the finite light? What if there is, and why would there not be, an element faster than Light? The denial of any such element, simply because it is unknown to us, will be antithetical to the spirit of scientific enquiry.
We are continuously obsessed with the idea of speed- of racing cars, computational chips and spaceships, to mention a few. The Night Journey of the Holy Prophet is the fastest journey ever undertaken by a man. Hence, Miraj must fascinate not just the devout believers, but every speed enthusiast as well.
